PEI Pharmacists Partner with PaRx:
Canada's National Nature Prescription

Nature prescriptions were named one of the top 8 global wellness trends in 2019. And it’s no surprise—research shows that kids and adults who spend more time in nature are happier and healthier. Starting with a BC launch in November 2020, PaRx is proud to be recognized worldwide as Canada’s national, evidence-based nature prescription program.

PaRx is an initiative of the BC Parks Foundation, driven by health-care professionals who want to improve their patients’ health by connecting them to nature. Featuring practical resources like quick tips and patient handouts, its goal is to make prescribing time in nature simple, fun and effective.

Each prescriber who registers with PaRx will receive a nature prescription file customized with a unique provider code, and instructions for how to prescribe and log nature prescriptions. Patients can also access special offers from our proud partners to reduce their barriers to nature access across Canada.

Park Prescriptions began as a grassroots movement in the United States over a decade ago, and have now spread to countries around the world.

Medication and Safe Needle Disposal Program

Did you know that Island pharmacies will accept unwanted medications and used needles or “sharps”? Yes it’s true and very easy. Simply go through your medicine cabinet and take back all your expired or unused medications, vitamins, supplements and used needles to your community pharmacy for FREE and environmentally safe disposal. Used needles should always be kept in a “sharps” container to prevent accidental needlesticks. “Sharps” containers are also provided free of charge at your local pharmacy.  Be sure to follow all safety precautions when returning medications and sharps, to protect yourself and our pharmacy staff members. Tips may be found here: HPSA- FAQs
